Hello 2021,
Last year I wrote this poem at the beginning of the year:
Look up, it’s 2020
another decade down
so let’s not frown
Another decade through
so let’s make anew
this year is mine
so let it shine
2019 behind
and that’s just fine
Look up, it‘s 2020
I talked about timed exposure and the aspect of a photographer-subject relationship (go ahead and take a look at the OG post!) I feel I may have oversimplified something last year: a person can't simply delete a photo and then adjust their settings. Why? Because a photo is a memory, and memories are long lasting. So, this year, I'd like to start out with a poem dedicated to you, 2021:
Look forward, 2020 is behind
Each year goes by
You must say goodbye
You can't change the past
And you can't control all present
So do what you can
And live like you ran
You ran the race of life
and left 2020 behind
You don't forget the past
But you don't live in it
You live life for life
And let life live for you
Each moment is a gift
Don't waste it
Don't lose it
Yet live it
And gift it
2021, you will bring new things to us all in many ways. As 2020 showed us, not all things go as we expect or even predict. But, we can control parts of our lives. This last year, the part of my life I tapped into for a constant support was music, in particular, the song 'Twenty-One' by Greyson Chance. If I shared it with you, you likely know this songs speaks to my entire being.
In this song, Greyson Chance says that "life is so hectic and I need to relax," while mentioning having just one year to be twenty-one. Well, that was last year for me. Now that I'm no longer twenty-one, yet still living a hectic life, I have decided to find power in new songs this year. Maybe I should turn to '22' by our dearest Taylor Swift? (Just give it a chance cause it's a bop). Well, one such song I am finding strength in is 'A New Way' by Morgxn. In this song, Morgxn says that "we don't need a reason to make a change" and how "every story you wrote it." While I wont dive into the power of this song and its poignancy to me in this post, I will say that I have dedicated this song to you.
Instead of asking yourself "how long can we stand here?" Be the change, you don't need a reason.
I am positive many songs will influence me this year, so hopefully you enjoy some good bops. If not, who are you and why don't you like music?
Regards,
Hartley
P.S Don't try and pull any funny business on us this year
P.P.S I may be 22, but you just turned 21 (plus 2000 years), so yes, you can steal last year's anthem from me
P.P.P.S Hopefully you like Kesha, cause boy do I have a surprise for you

While this is not the most eloquently written post I have put out there, it is meant to be quick and positive like this year should be . . . haha right? Also sorry it's late (but hey, at least it's still January)!
